About stdbee

There is not much to explain about StdBee. It is a standard deviation calculator, and its job is computing population and sample standard deviation, variance, mean and count from a batch of numbers, with input cleaning and step-by-step working. What follows is how it works, why it exists, and what it does with your data.

What StdBee is for

Search for everyday-utility tools and you will mostly find pages that bury a single calculation under cookie walls, newsletter modals and three paragraphs of filler. We built StdBee as the opposite: one focused tool that computes population and sample standard deviation, variance, mean and count from a batch of numbers, with input cleaning and step-by-step working, and nothing between you and the answer. Keeping it that narrow is what makes it fast, and what makes it honest about how the result is produced.

How the calculation works

The whole calculation is client-side JavaScript. What happens is this: it distinguishes the population and sample formulas by the divisor — N or N-1 — which is the difference that makes a sample estimate slightly larger, and shows each step so the arithmetic can be followed. Because the method is published here, any disagreement you find can be traced to a particular step instead of being blamed on a black box.

Where your data goes

Your input stays local: the data you paste is handled entirely by the page and never leaves your device. You can turn off your connection after loading and the tool still works, which is the simplest proof that nothing is being sent.

Who tends to use it

Keeping the lights on

StdBee is free to use and supported by advertising. Adverts are kept off the working part of the page, and no advertiser receives anything you type. If a page ever becomes slow or intrusive, that is a bug worth reporting.

Tell us what you think

Tell us through the contact page if you find a bug or want something added. The standard deviation calculator improves mainly on the strength of what users report.
